Do You Need Funeral Insurance?

by retire-early on March 27, 2012

When it comes to insurance, your options run the gamut. Besides the usual life, health and disability, there is insurance you can buy for your jewelry, vacation luggage and even for your pets! One kind of insurance that is growing in popularity is funeral insurance, sometimes referred to as funeral life insurance.

Don’t let that little word “life” throw you off, though. A funeral insurance policy is much easier to obtain than either a term or whole life policy. You don’t have to prove you are in perfect health or jump through a bunch of hoops to get it.

Why should you consider this type of policy? Funeral costs aren’t going anywhere but up, and  death of a loved one – even if expected – can bring a painful financial blow. Purchasing senior burial insurance gives everyone the peace of mind that funeral costs – the service, casket, plot, etc. – will be taken care of.

Consider your personal financial situation, and check out the rates of such a policy. If you are at the age where you could join the AARP – or even younger –  you should consider whether funeral insurance would be a good fit for your family.
